UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic’s Back Pain Programme, developed by our own Research and Physiotherapy Departments is a novel approach to the rehabilitation of chronic low back pain.
It is a strength and conditioning intervention based on sound biomechanical and training principles that also addresses the complex psychology that is commonly seen with low back pain.
Patient’s will start with one-on-one sessions to address the issues relating to their low back pain and learn the exercises used in the programme. They will receive videos of these exercises to develop the correct techniques involved.
Once ready, they will enter a 3 month training programme consisting of 3 training sessions per week.
These can be performed either in their own gym or the Performance Rehabilitation Gym at SSC.
When training at the clinic they will be able to attend up to 3 sessions per week all of which will be led by a strength and conditioning coach and physiotherapist.
Sessions take place between 6-7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Patients do not have to attend every session at the clinic but we would suggest that attending a supervised session at least once every 2 weeks is important.
